When you've got an outfit as technologically advanced as Ferrari at your disposal, you don't let it keep its talents all to itself. That's why Ferrari developed the V8 used in all current Maseratis. But according to the latest reports, that could expand right into the upper reaches of the Alfa Romeo range.It wouldn't be the first time Ferrari had been called in to provide Alfa some mechanical motivation. The 8C Competizione was powered by a Ferrari-built 4.5-liter V8.


Even a couple of Lancias (like the Stratos and the Thema 8.32) featured Ferrari engines. The next generation of Alfa Romeo and Maserati models, however, could take that to the next level.The Prancing Horse marque is tipped to be developing a range of new V6 and V8 engines, with and without turbochargers, for upcoming Alfa Romeos and Maseratis. That comes as little surprise vis-a-vis the Trident brand's upcoming models, like the new Quattroporte, Levante SUV and Ghibli sedan. But given that Alfa Romeos are currently available with engines no larger than four cylinders, the prospect of Ferrari-developed engines in new Alfas comes as particularly intriguing news.
