Recommendations from Bridgestone, the number one tire and rubber manufacturer in the world

Bridgestone, the number one tire and rubber manufacturer in the world, recommends to switch your tires from summer to winter.

At lower temperatures, even when there is no snow, summer tires become less efficient and winter tires perform better.

Winter driving can be intimidating and dangerous fitting purpose-built winter tires and knowing how to handle them is more important than ever.

Winter tires should ideally be used from October to Easter, when the temperature traditionally drops. Choosing to fit winter tires early means you can choose from a larger selection of tires and avoid delays caused by the annual rush when winter really kicks in!

For winter tires, both the compound and tread design are much better adapted to winter conditions, offering dramatically improved safety, grip and performance on snow, ice, slush, but also on wet and frozen roads.

Tips for the winter

• Check your grip. Because road conditions can change quickly and drastically, it’s important to regularly test how much traction you can count on in case you have to brake or swerve suddenly. Gently apply the brake every now and again and slow down, if needed, in response to changing road conditions.

• Turn in stages. When cornering on snow or icy surfaces, break down the manoeuvrings into smaller steps. Brake first, in a straight line, before making the turn. And accelerate gradually after straightening back up. That way, you use all the available grip to make the turn.

• Forget the cruise control. In wet or icy At lower temperatures, even when there is no snow, summer tires become less efficient and winter tires perform better.

• If in doubt, don’t drive. If the weather looks too treacherous, leave the car at home. Nothing should be more important than your safety and that of your loved ones.

Bridgestone offers a great solution for safety in winter

Bridgestone invests heavily in developing the most advanced winter tire technology possible. Hard on the heels of the overwhelming success of the Blizzak LM001 in the 2014 ADAC winter tire test, two more tires from the Bridgestone winter line-up have been the subject of high praise from other leading independent testing bodies.

Most notably, Bridgestone’s flagship winter tire for SUVs, the Blizzak LM-80 EVO received the coveted “very recommendable” rating from Autobild ALLRAD for, among others, it’s very good performance on snow while the Blizzak LM-32s winter touring tire also earned Autobild’s recommendation.

Together with the high-scoring performance of the Blizzak LM001, these new results represent firm confirmation of Bridgestone’s ongoing commitment to road safety at all times, in all seasons and in all climates
