This decades-long sales battle is far from over, but for now, the Ford Mustang is outselling the Chevy Camaro. The never-ending sales battle between the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro is always fun to watch. While the latest Camaro has regularly outsold the Mustang in recent times, the latter has apparently won the sales crown for the first half of 2013. So is there any specific reason as to why the Mustang has outsold the Camaro for the past six months? There doesn’t seem to be, but there are a couple of theories.

One is that the Mustang just celebrated its 50th anniversary, which has undoubtedly given it extra attention. Another factor could be that people are anxious to pick up the current Mustang because when its replacement debuts next March, it’ll have an independent rear suspension as opposed to the current car’s solid rear axle. But here’s where these latest sales numbers really get interesting: Mustang sales were down almost 10 percent in June and the Camaro’s were down by nearly 21 percent. The Dodge Challenger, on the other hand, saw increased sales during that same time by 27 percent. Despite these latest numbers, the Mustang has outsold the Camaro big time ever since they both debuted decades ago. All told, Ford has sold 1.02 million Mustangs while Chevrolet has sold 345,000 Camaros. The Challenger's overall sales numbers aren't even comparable to those of its Ford and Chevy rivals, but boasts its own loyal following
