Renault Sets New Record

Renault has unveiled its Renault Sport Megane : the Trophy-R special edition that has just beaten the front-wheel-drive record at the Nurburgring by four seconds. With a time of 7min 54.36secs, the Trophy R smashed the Seat Leon Cupra 280’s time of 7min 58sec.

Extreme weight saving measures include removing the rear seats and rear windscreen wiper deleting the air con, radio and noise insulation, installing a smaller battery and adding lightweight 19-inch Speedline wheels and Recaro bucket seats made from a single piece of polycarbonate.

The 2.0-liter turbo-four was then upped to 271 hp with torque remaining at 266 lb-ft, while chassis upgrades include a Akrapovic titanium exhaust, adjustable Ohlins dampers, 350 mm brake discs and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires.

Distinguishing exterior enhancements include a two-tone paint scheme that pairs a pearlescent white body with a black roof, checked flag graphic and F1-style front blade. Limited to 250 units, Renault has priced the Megane RS 275 Trophy-R special edition at £36,430.
