It’s comfortably the highest-rated model in the Outlander range and one of the highest-rated Mitsubishis full stop. Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is an eminently sensible, reassuring approach.

It’s comfortably the highest-rated model in the Outlander range and one of the highest-rated Mitsubishis full stop. Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is an eminently sensible, reassuring approach.

There’s seating for five, a lofty driving position, good visibility and a boot unencumbered by the batteries below it .

The PHEV uses a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine and two 80-horsepower electric motors, one for the front wheels and one for the rears. A 12 kWh battery sits between the axles.

There’s enough power for reasonable performance – 0-62mph in 11 seconds – and when the engine kicks in, it’s smooth and fairly quiet in the cabin.

As for the safety there are airbags for driver and front passenger, side head and thorax airbags and a driver’s knee airbag.

Rear seats and the front passenger seat have Isofix points. In addition, Mitsubishi has loaded the PHEV with kit like Forward Collision Mitigation to prevent impacts.
