2014 Mercedes S-Class Nearly Ready

The next generation of Mercedes-Benz's luxury flagship sedan is only a few short weeks away from its official debut. Mercedes-Benz plans to unveil its all-new next-generation S-Class flagship sedan in the middle of next month. Truth be told, we’ve already seen the final production car caught completely disguised by our spy photographers while it was likely doing some promotional photo shoots. But today we bring you what are likely the last spy images of a prototype caught testing before its big debut. Aside from the slight bits of camouflage here and there, the car’s sleeker design over its predecessor is quite evident

Note the large front grille that was directly inspired by the F700 Concept, along with LED head- and taillights. Overall, the 2014 S-Class is still a fairly conservative design – similar to the approaches Lexus takes with the LS and BMW with the current 7 Series. Unlike the outgoing model, the new S-Class will also have to fill the luxury gap left by the demise of Maybach, the uber-luxury brand Daimler attempted to revive to compete head-on with Volkswagen's Bentley and BMW's Rolls-Royce subsidiaries. Engine choices (particularly in the US) will likely include twin-turbo V8 and V12 engines, as well as hybrid and diesel variants
