Z/28 Needs Some Big Rubbers

Chevy's new Z/28 is swinging some serious power, so big tires are a must. The 2014 Chevy Z/28 Camaro is going to be a pretty impressive car all around. We already know about the 7.0-liter LS7 V8 and the weight saving measures which will be employed, but now there is some new information.

The Z/28 will have the biggest front tires of any production vehicle on the road. These will be Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tires, measuring 305/30ZR-19, at all four corners. These enormous tires are made in the same plant where Pirelli makes its F1 tires.

The connection to race cars is no coincidence, the 60-thread count tires are as close to slicks as is legal on the road. The contact patches will make for some impressive cornering, as Chevy says that the Z/28 will be able to hit 1.05g through the corners. That’s quite an impressive number, and it will make it even funnier anytime that someone who has never driven one claims it won’t be able to corner because it’s a muscle car.
