The National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) has just released the results of a new study that examine the rates of car theft in the US. Only this time, the main focus was on luxury car theft. So after all the statistical calculations were completed, NICB researchers concluded that the most stolen luxury vehicle is the Mercedes-Benz C-Class. How did they come to this conclusion? It’s very simple. The researchers discovered that 4,384 luxury cars were reported stolen between January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2011.

Of that amount, a total of 485 were C-Class models, both coupes and sedans. So what was the number two on this list? The BMW 3 Series at 471 thefts. The Infiniti G series came in with 405 thefts. In fact, Mercedes-Benz models are so popular (or easy) to steal that both the E-Class (381 thefts) and S-Class (163) made the top 10 list as well. So the bottom line is this: If you own a Mercedes C-Class or a Ford F-250 pickup, then there’s a greater likelihood your cars will get swiped. By the way, the study also reported that of those reported cars stolen (4,384), 713 remain unrecovered, an 83.7 percent recovery rate.
